Homeworks
Abstract
Homeworks. Myra Lenburg. Amherst: Massachusetts Cooperative Extension Service, 1987. Video cassette series, $70 per set in VHS or $140 per set in 3/4" format. Available from the producer, 123 Skinner Hall, University of Massachusetts, Amherst, MA 01003.
The seven-part Homeworks series was developed to fill the educational needs of a large and growing segment of our economy - the home-based business entrepreneur. Nationwide, it's estimated there are between 10 and 15 million home businesses.
The half-hour shows combine in-studio discussion about issues facing all home businesses and on-location profiles of area home businesses. The featured businesses are a mix of products and services, businesses that support the family, and those providing secondary income. These are catering and food preparation, family day care, sewing and crafts, house cleaning, and bed and breakfast.
Topics discussed in-studio with Extension educators are: (1) Getting Started, (2) Financial and Legal Issues, (3) Pricing for Profit, (4) Marketing the Product or Service, (5) Time and Business Management, (6) Research about Home Businesses, and (7) Taking Risks.
Reference books and resource agencies are listed in each show. An award-winning series of fact sheets accompanies each set and is offered to viewers without cost.
